The Revolution Has Started…

The Revolution Has Started…

I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of an exciting new make up brand, Makeup Revolution.  The launch took place in London on Monday, 31st March 2014; with their website having gone live just a couple of days before on the Friday.

When a new makeup brand launches you kind of expect the same sort of products as most other brands; lipsticks, lipglosses, foundations, blushers, mascara, etc. Obviously Makeup Revolution fulfilled this expectation however, what was not expected was the high end quality of the products compared to the drugstore price tag.

Makeup Revolution say:

We will revolutionise the world of makeup!

‘Makeup Revolution’ is the ground breaking, new colour cosmetic brand launching in April 2014.

‘Makeup Revolution’ will transform the high street as they introduce the hottest and most desirable makeup trends at every day, affordable prices.

‘Makeup Revolution’ is at the forefront of product innovation, delivering trend lead cosmetics, developed to professional standards but at purse friendly prices.

Expert makeup palettes, new ‘complexion perfector’ technology, advanced liquid colours, gilded eye foils and sumptuous lip assortments can all be found in this highly anticipated new makeup range.

Prices from £1 – £12

The launch of Makeup Revolution was the perfect way for this new and exciting brand to showcase the 298 products that they have on offer at the moment.

There was the opportunity to have a mini-makeover by Daybreak Make Up Artist, Claire Ray and/or have your nails painted too in one (or more) of Makeup Revolution’s 50 desirable shades.

Not wishing to steal the limelight from the fabulous products that were being showcased, the launch also gave some of us lucky people the chance to meet “Blondie”, the Makeup Pooch! who was more than happy to oblige those of us who wanted to give her some fuss & cuddles…that was until meeting her public all became too much and she needed to have a little nap.

Makeup Revolution currently have 2 foundations available. “The One” Foundation which is available in 16 shades. While they (Makeup Revolution) say there is 1 shade for everyone I would say there could, potentially be a couple.  I am very fair so both 4 and 5 can suit my tones and shade 7 also suits me for whenever I may actually have a tan.

The foundation is very liquid but a little goes a long way. The coverage starts off sheer but is very buildable and you can apply several layers to achieve your desired finish without it getting “thick” or “cakey” looking.

The other foundation is “The Matte Effect” which is available in 8 shades.  I haven’t actually used this product on myself but did have an opportunity to swatch it at the launch.  The coverage seems very good and it blends easily.

Makeup Revolution’s range of face products is, for a new brand, extensive and well thought out but it is their range of different blushers that really deserves a mention.  There is a selection of liquid (lacquer), powder, cream and baked, so there really is something for everyone.

Also available in the face products is a selection of baked bronzers, liquid & solid concealer and 3 highlighters.

Makeup Revolution do a range of eyeshadow; from solo shades, to the classic 12 shade palettes right through to a 100 shade palette for just £12.  The range of colours available is truly amazing; you have the classic nudes and neutrals, through to a selection of marbled shades, right through to some amazing acid neon brights and there is a selection of both matte and shimmer available.

The pigmentation of the eyeshadows is far more than you would expect for the price and is definitely more like what you would expect from the expensive, high-end brands.  The shadows go on velvet smooth and, even without an accompanying eye primer, stay put and crease free all day.  They blend seamlessly and, like the foundations, are buildable without looking cakey or heavy.

Each palette (with the exception of the 100 shade palette) is just £4 and with the Iconic 1, Iconic 2 and Iconic 3 being hailed as perfect dupes for a well known high-end brand, I would have to say that the £4 for each palette truly is more than worth it.

The other eye products available are 3 different eye primers, eyebrow palettes, eye dusts, liquid eyeliner, kajal, eye “foils” and, obviously, mascara.

At the moment I have a real “thing” about lip products to the point that I would almost list a lip product as my 1 make up essential, rather than a foundation or mascara (like really?!)  so, needless to say, I was beyond excited to see the stunning range of shades (and products) available in Makeup Revolution’s lip collection.

First and foremost the selection of colours in their £1 lipstick range is incomprehensibly brilliant and, if you can’t find a shade (or seven) in there to make you happy then perhaps you shouldn’t wear lipstick! There’s the classic nudes and light pinks; including “The One” this is a nude shade which, don’t ask me how, just seems to suit everyone.  You then have your usual range of shades, but then there is something much more exciting in “The Vamp” collection and “The Scandalous” collection.

The Vamps are 3 of my favourites:
Rebel With A Cause: A deep, dark, almost berry shade, sexy red.
100% Vamp: A deep berry purple.
Black Heart: So dark it’s almost black.
(Vamp & Black Heart look very similar when photographed, but there is a swatch picture below where you can see how much darker Black Heart is).

The Scandalous collection are fantastic neon brights which include “Felony” a bright yellow, “Immoral” a bright blue and, one of my favourites, “Depraved” a bright purple.  Unlike a lot of other “bright” colours which end up with  their payoff being wishy washy, this collection really does deliver on both colour and pigmentation.  At just £1 each, what have you got to lose?

Other lip products available from Makeup Revolution are Intense Lip Lacquer (the pigmentation of these particular glosses in insanely brilliant), Velvet Lip Lacquer (the liquid to matte trend), Lip Gloss Tubes and wands, Lip Power (lipstick at one end and complimentary gloss at the other) and #HappyLips; a revolution in lip colour and care; a colour core surrounded by a “shell” of Argan Oil.
